Grange-over-Sands village is a 10 minute drive from the house. It has many independent shops such as butchers, greengrocers, a delicatessen and homewares as well as cafes, restaurants and takeaways. Cartmel village is also only 10 minutes drive and is home to Simon Rogan’s renown Michelin starred restaurants L’Enclume and Rogan & Co as well as Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding, pubs, a brewery, cheese shop, wine shop and a bakery.

Newby Bridge is at the southern end of Lake Windermere which is a 10 minute drive from the house. From here you can park and catch a ferry up the lake or hire a paddle board, kayak, row boat etc. Bowness-on-Windermere village is a 20-30 minute drive up the eastern side of the lake.

There aren’t any cycle trails directly from Eller How however Grizedale Forest is perfect for off road woodland trails. It is a 30 minute scenic drive from the house.

Eller How is split into two wings – the East and West. The West wing is the holiday let with it’s own driveway, entrance, parking and lawns. The East wing is where owners, Nina and Sam, live.

By all means! There is a hand drawn map of the grounds in the house book in the kitchen to act as a guide. There are just a few private signs which offer both the owners and guests privacy from each other which should be respected.

Eller How is in an area with plenty of good food and local produce on offer.

Besides exploring the grounds, there is a lovely walk up the fell behind the house to a ruined castle at the top, with panoramic views across the Lakeland fells and the bay.

There isn’t a designated BBQ at the property however guests are welcome to use disposables so long at they are kept on a stone surface, disposed of safely and not left unattended.
